Formula
EIRP(dBm) = transmitter dBm - feed loss dB + antenna gain dBi
EIRP is the power an ideal isotropic antenna would need to produce the same strongest-direction field strength.
Worked Example
A 1 W transmitter is 30 dBm. With 1 dB feed loss and 6 dBi antenna gain, EIRP is 35 dBm, or about 3.16 W.
Assumptions and Limits
Include every cable, connector, filter, splitter, and mismatch loss between the transmitter and antenna if known.
EIRP limits vary by service, band, modulation, location, and antenna configuration. Check the applicable operating rules before transmitting.
