Formula
Required kW = Running kW × (1 + reserve %)
Required kVA = Required kW ÷ power factor
Example
A 40 kW load at 0.8 PF with 25% reserve requires at least 50 kW and 62.5 kVA for steady-state operation.
What This Estimate Covers
The calculator applies a simple reserve margin to the total coincident running load. It is useful for an early capacity check when load kW and aggregate power factor are known.
What It Does Not Cover
Motor starting, transformer inrush, nonlinear UPS loads, welding loads, load steps, voltage dip, frequency dip, altitude, temperature, fuel, emissions, and generator transient performance may control the final selection.
A generator manufacturer or qualified designer should model the actual load sequence and largest starting event before equipment is purchased.
