Vector A

Vector B

Relationships

|A| = √(Ax² + Ay² + Az²)

A · B = |A||B|cosθ    A × B is perpendicular to both vectors

Worked Example

Vector A = <3, 4, 0> has magnitude 5 and unit vector <0.6, 0.8, 0>. This same component method applies to electric fields, magnetic fields, force, velocity, and position.

Assumptions and Limits

All components must use compatible units and the same Cartesian coordinate system.

A cross-product direction depends on component order. A × B points opposite B × A according to the right-hand rule.
